Green Flying Fish by Betz Green
Betz Green will discuss and demonstrate techniques and materials for creating one of her latest portfolios entitled “The Subtle Beauty of Nature’s Castoffs”. This body of work combines her love of nature with a lifelong habit of collecting nature’s discards. Each painting is a detailed interpretation of found objects, including small skeletons and insects, assembled into a still life, then brought to life with watercolor and casein, silverpoint drawing and pastel pencil on collaged watercolor papers. The resulting pieces are whimsical portrayals inspired by nature’s small wonders.
Because each completed project takes a long time with numerous steps, for this talk Betz will lay out an array of materials she uses, then explain the process with short demonstrations for selected steps. She will discuss how she thinks about the story lines, composition and other important artistic elements.
This artist demonstration will happen 11:00 - 12:30.
