Join Mary Whyte for an inspiring and educational two days of painting the figure from life in watercolor. For students of all levels, Mary will guide students in color mixing, drawing, composition, getting a likeness and creating dynamic works as well as offer tips on marketing and the business side to being an artist. Each day will start with a painting demonstration, then the students will paint alongside Mary as she offers one-on-one assistance and encouragement. Learn how to capture your subject in a watercolor portrait with expert, Mary Whyte.  

Times: 

October 21: 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM, with a 30 to 60 minute on-site lunch break

October 22: 8:30AM until 3:00 PM, with a 30 to 60 minute on-site lunch break. 

Payment Policy:

Payment has to be completed to guarantee a seat in the workshop. 

Cancellation Policy:

Students are responsible for the full tuition amount after 60 days prior to the workshop. If there is a person on the waitlist, or if the committed artist can find a replacement after 60 days prior to the workshop, the original artist will receive a refund.


About Mary Whyte:

Mary Whyte (b. 1953) is an American figurative artist known internationally for her watercolors of contemporary people.  Her works are in private, corporate, university and public collections nationwide, and have been featured in numerous media outlets including CBS Sunday Morning, PBS and NPR.  In 2013, Whyte was one of ten artists worldwide invited to travel to China and exhibit her watercolors at the Nanning Art Museum in Nanning, Guangxi.
 
The author of seven books including We the People: Portraits of Veterans in America, Whyte’s work has also been featured in many international publications, including periodicals and books in China, Russia, France, Germany, Canada and Taiwan.  She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Portrait Society of America's Gold Medal, the Carolinas Freedom Foundation’s Freedom Award, and the South Carolina Governor's Award for the Arts, South Carolina’s highest honor in the arts. 
 
In 2019 Whyte founded the Patriot Art Foundation as a means to honor and inspire veterans through the arts.
