Juror of Selection  - Joseph Zbukvic

Joseph Zbukvic is an internationally renowned master watercolorist from Melbourne, Australia.  Since starting his professional career in 1978, he has won over 200 National and International awards including three times the coveted Camberwell Rotary Art Exhibition.  He has exhibited his work in over forty solo shows in Australia and around the world. Joseph is a member of the Victorian Watercolour Society, Twenty Melbourne Painters Society and The Australian Watercolour Institute.  Joseph is the author of “Mastering Atmosphere and Mood in Watercolour”, as well as authoring numerous instructional DVD’s. This spring he will be teaching at the 8th Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo in San Francisco, California.  Following the convention he will be giving a five day workshop in Fallbrook, California. www.josephzbukvic.com



Judge of Awards - Liz Haywood Sullivan

Liz Haywood-Sullivan, PSA-MP, IAPS/MC, is a representational artist specializing in pastel landscapes. She is a President Emerita of the International Association of Pastel Societies (2013-2017) where she managed three international conventions and twelve international exhibitions. Dedicated to working in the pastel medium since 1996 she teaches nationally and internationally, and is a sought after judge and demonstrator for pastel societies and arts organizations around the world. She is author of the popular book “Painting Brilliant Skies” and “Water in Pastel”.  Her pastel paintings have won numerous awards, have been featured in national, international and museum exhibitions, and are included in private and corporate collections worldwide. www.lizhaywoodsullivan.com

Fees:

Members dues must be paid  in full prior to entering the 2019 International Works on Paper Exhibit. “Paid in Full” means that your dues are paid until December 31, 2019.

Entry fee entitles entrants to submit two paintings but no more than one painting will be selected for the exhibition. There are new membership benefits, which include discounted rates for workshops, demonstrations and talks.


Members: $35 entry fee

Non-Members: $50.00 entry fee


Eligible Work:

Please Read Carefully the following Conditions and Rules:

Work that does not comply with the following conditions and rules will not be exhibited and will be returned at the artist’s expense; and, the artist may be excluded from any and all exhibitions sponsored by the PWCS for a period of two years.


  • Media: In addition to watercolor, soft pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, pen & ink,  gouache, acrylic and hand-pulled prints are also accepted. All work must be original and on or of paper. Clay prints on Reemay using water soluble mediums are acceptable.  Collage elements must be of paper and cannot be mounted on canvas. Any image or color on collage papers must be of water media and the work of the artist. No oils, oil pastels, photographic, digital, electronic processes or computer art will be accepted.

  • Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Up to two entries per artist; only one will be accepted.

  • No work previously exhibited at Community Arts Center or in any PWCS  exhibition will be accepted.

  • All entries must be for sale.

  • Substitutions:Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work.

  • Withholding: Artists properly notified of acceptance may not withhold their work for any reason upon penalty of a two year disqualification from the Anniversary Show.

  • Current Work: Entries must be no older than 3 years and not have been exhibited in any previous PWCS  exhibition. Entries that were produced prior to April, 2016 will not be sent to the juror.

  • Originality: Your painting must not have been done under teacher supervision; either in a class or workshop or from a DVD or book. Photo reference must have been taken by the entrant.

  • Maximum Size: Framed size cannot exceed 48 inches in any dimension

  • Minimum Image Size: No side of the painting visible within the mat can be less than 10”.

  • Sales: All accepted work must be for sale. Once accepted the price of your painting cannot be changed. Community Arts Center will receive 40% of the sale price and the artist 60% of the sale price. All paintings must hang for the duration of the exhibition.

Digital Entries Preparation:

If an entry does not conform to the digital requirements the image of your artwork may not be published in the catalogue. A blank space will appear with your information.

  • Digital entries must be JPG format with a resolution of (at least) 300 dpi.
  • Image size should be 1200-1500 pixels on the longest  dimension with a
  • maximum file size of 2 mb.  
  • Entries should show image only, no mat or frame.
  • Please visit www.pwcsociety.org for additional guidelines on preparing digital images.

1. Make sure your membership dues are paid and your contact information is up to date here. Dues for 2019  must be paid in full. (Paid through December 31, 2019) Note the Member discount/coupon code for the show from the Membership drop down menu or by clicking here. If your email is incorrect you may not get a notice about the acceptance of your painting nor will you receive communications from Philadelphia Water Color Society.

2. Review the digital image requirements and watch the tutorial here

3. Go to the Call for Entries digital submission page.

4. This will take you to the EntryThingy entry system.

5. If you have not used the Entrythingy system before you will need to set up your free account. There is a video tutorial and it is easy.  

6.Your Entrythingy account is a separate account from your PWCS account.

7. You will be asked to agree to the following:

I hereby agree to the conditions set forth in this prospectus. If my work is selected, I give permission for my work to be reproduced for the PWCS exhibition catalog, publicity, and educational purposes for this exhibition and possibly future exhibitions.

8. Complete your entry and pay your fee by PayPal. We do not accept checks. You do not need a PayPal account to pay your entry fee.

Confirming Entries & Notification:  

Artists will receive one Email for each piece of artwork submitted and two Emails if two pieces are submitted.  If your Email is incorrect you may not get a notice about the acceptance of your painting nor will you receive communications from Philadelphia Watercolor Society. You will receive an email for accepted/unaccepted for each your submitted works. If you submitted two pieces, you will either receive two unaccepted E-mails or one acceptance Email and one unaccepted E-mail.

Email Notifications will be sent on or about July 10, 2019.

Conditions for Accepted Work:

Only framing with white mats and glass or plexiglass are acceptable. A thin color liner may be used when double matting. Selected work must be wired and ready to hang. Framing must be professional in appearance with clean mats, frames without visible damages, and clean glass or plexiglass without noticeable scratches. All frames over 36” inches in any direction must use plexiglass. All shipped work must use plexiglass.  Back of painting should be sealed (including metal frames). PWCS reserves the right to review all entries, hand delivered and shipped, for conformance with specifications outlined in the prospectus and the right to turn away any work that does not match the submitted digital entry. Hand delivered work will be inspected upon receipt for compliance with the conditions and rules.

Shipping and Handling Instructions:

  • Detailed instructions will be sent to accepted entrants.
  • All shipped work must be received between August 12, 2019 and August 22, 2019.
  • (Not before August 12 or after August 22, 2019)

North American Entries:

Shipped work must be shipped with a prepaid BARCODED return label affixed to the outside of the box. The barcoded return label must be visible.  The handling fee should be attached to the back of the painting (not loose in the box). Handling fees for work shipped in Air Float boxes are $20.00; all other packaging is $50.00.

International Entries: A $50.00 handling fee will apply to all entries from outside of the United States, Canada or Mexico. (Please use PayPal for your handling fee)

  • Artist is responsible for any damage in shipment.

  • If a prepaid return label and check are not included with the shipped work, the artist’s painting will not be hung or included in the show. The artist will be responsible for having their artwork picked up and shipped back.

  • A prepaid Barcodedreturn label must be secured to the outside of the box in a clear packing slip pouch with the barcoded label visible. The $ 50.00 handling fee must have been prepaid using PayPal.  The boxed artwork will not be accepted without it.

  • We must receive the proper payment and paperwork or you will be ineligible from entering PWCS exhibitions for the next two years.

  • We will not be responsible for returning your painting without a prepaid barcoded return label.


Liability:

Artists are responsible for insuring their work in transit. Community Art Center will provide insurance up to $5000.00 per piece while on site at CAC.  PWCS will not be responsible for works damaged, lost or stolen. Any work left after close of exhibition will be placed in storage at the artist’s risk and insurance coverage discontinued. A late charge of $5 per day will apply.

Sales: Community Art Center takes a 40% commission on all sales. All work must be for sale.

Exhibition Catalog:

A limited edition catalog will be sent to all entrants. All international entrants will be sent the catalog in a PDF format. Additional catalogs will be available for purchase.

Signature Membership:

An Associate Member in good standing will become a Signature Member after exhibiting as an Associate in two Anniversary International Exhibitions. An Associate Member cannot have an interruption  in membership between the first and second acceptance to validate Signature Membership. Signature Members may use initials “PWCS” after their name.
