PHILADELPHIA WATER COLOR SOCIETY

2021 PWCS Member Show - Juror's Statement

Judging the Philadelphia Watercolor Society 2021 exhibition is an important responsibility and one that I took very seriously.

The members have submitted an amazing body of artwork.

Judging art is subjective.

This is the criteria I used in judging for awards:  Did the artist take a risk?

From the well worn and fuzzy socks, to the monumental cliff of the Southwest, the sumptuous reflective pool of Spain, and the stunning abstract of the reclining nude all paintings will invite you to ponder.

This lively exhibition will hopefully enchant and delight with its variety of subject, styles, imagery, and color.

To be genuine, authentic, and heartfelt in your artistry is the most important achievement.

Art is about communication.

To exhibit art is an act of courage.

Learning to exhibit often, with or without approval, takes fortitude.

If you ever doubt yourself, persevere.

May each artist have success in bringing passion and beauty to the world.

Thank you for the opportunity to jury. I am honored to have been entrusted with the responsibility.

My hope is that you enjoy the online exhibition as much as I did.
